A new well plan starts with the parcel, not a depth guess. We gather the intended use, household or stock demand, property lines, septic locations, buried utilities, access for a rig, and nearby Montana well logs. DNRC currently describes a permit exception for groundwater use of 35 gallons per minute or less and no more than 10 acre-feet per year. Since January 1, 2026, the exception also uses a Notice of Intent before the water goes into use. Larger or different uses can follow another application path. A Montana-licensed driller completes regulated construction and submits the well log. We prepare the information for that handoff without promising depth, yield, cost, or a completion date.
